Anufriev Slava, 4-th neuroblastoma with bone marrow lesion and multiplied metastases in bones and cranium.

Misfortune came to the Anufriev family in September 2009. The mother of little Slava will remember for ever her child’s cries in the night: “Mum, help me! I am in pain, Mummy!… My feet, all inside me is in pain!” The body of a little boy, writhing with pain. Senseless coming of ambulance. Useless tabs. Doctor visits. Analyses, ultrasound, x-ray. And later on just the same, but for pay. The experts shrugged their shoulders, and condition of the child became worse from one day to another. Also a high temperature added to the pains. Doctor prescribed anti-inflammatory and analgesic, but nothing helped.
As a rule, there is no patient so patience like a child is. When adults already yell because of pain, the little one gathers all his will in fist and suffers. And he even finds strengths to urge his mother not to cry. How strong was the pain, little Slava had, if he cried and entreated to help! Maybe all the case was that he was simply afraid? There are many children patient in oncologic hospitals. As if they were not bad, they see confidence in the eyes of adults and continue to suffer, because they know: they are treated. But miserable Slava felt as a terrible monster devours him from inside, but saw no doctor capable to save him. Puzzled looks only.

For the first time Slava was diagnosed after four months of sufferings. Slava was examined in Scientific and Research Institute of Rheumatology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Russia, and diagnosed with “reactive arthritis” and in spite of bad analyses results and high temperature discharged from hospital. By the time he already could not do without drugs.
Later on the Scientific Children Health Center (Institute of Pediatrics) of the Academy of Medical Science was. There by the use of Computerized Tomography the right adrenal tumor was found. Nine times the bone marrow puncture was made, but analysis results showed nothing and the final diagnosis was not made.
In the Scientific and Research Institute of Children Blood Oncology of the N. N. Blokhin Scientific Center of Oncology of Russia for determination of treatment tactics the adrenalectomy was offered for the purpose to send the adrenal to histological test. But the parents made up their mind to take away their son for examination and treatment to Israel. May one accuse them for such “willful” decision? His mother writes: “We simply understood that our son was interesting to our doctors as one big piece of “histological material” only. But he is darling for us as he is our dear son. If we haven’t taken him away, he was no longer with us”.
To pay the first stage of treatment Slava’s grandmother sold her apartment and moved to small one-room apartment of her children. Now a family, consisting of 6 members (three children, father, mother and grandmother), live together. Though Slava and his parents beginning from May, 2010 are in Israel and he is under observation at Ichilov Hospital “Dana” Children’s Branch. Israeli doctors justified our confidence: they found the malignant tumor (not at the same place the Russian doctors were looking for). The main tumor is on a spinal column. Slava passed 8 chemotherapy blocks, six high dose chemotherapy blocks and five anti recidivism chemotherapy blocks, passed adrenalectomy operation. According to results of the last examination the tumor on the spinal column reduced, the bone marrow was cleared entirely. Slava feels considerably better.

After the sixth chemotherapy block the next examination the bone marrow implantation at Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center DANA Children’s Hospital lie in way. The cost of bone marrow test, PET-CT, TKM.
But the main thing is before. The removal of T8-T11 spinal column tumor is necessary. Israeli surgeons do not undertake to do the operation. The first class neurosurgeons are needed. The child’s documents were sent to some USA clinics. For the present an answer only from one of clinics – Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, was received – it was C. A surgeon from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is ready to operate on Slava. Slava is in Cincinnati Children’s, USA, now, where his full examination was made. Slava has passed the spinal column operation, stem cells collecting, one MIGB therapy course. Slava has to pass one more MIGB therapy course, for which we are short of $116.000.
lease help us to save Slava, we have a hope of complete recovery, and we believe that Slava will be well in a short time. Thank all of you very much. Slava’s parents.
